Hertford County Office of Aging returns to pre-pandemic operations

WINTON – As the country slowly re-opens after months of restrictions, so has the Hertford County Office of Aging.

“It has been great to see seniors back in our nutrition sites,” stated Office of Aging Director Diedra Evans. “The isolation of the last year has been tough.”

Evans added that the slogan “more than a meal” has never been more apparent.

“Friends are seeing each other for the first time in many months,” she stressed. “The ensuing smiles, laughter and conversations are good for the soul. It’s as if the sites have come back to life. It’s a beautiful thing!”

Evans said the nutrition sites were re-opened in stages. Registered seniors returned to dine in at those the sites following social distancing recommendations.

“In order to accommodate all who wished to participate, we had tables and diners spread throughout the entire building,” she stated.

The final phase of reopening began June 1 when all COVID-19 restrictions were lifted. The Hertford County Office of Aging has resumed services, programs, club meetings and activities in their traditional formats and locations.

However, Evans still stressed the need for senior citizens yet to receive a COVID vaccine to do so.

“COVID-19 vaccines are our best shot to bring back summer and get everyone safely back to the people, places and activities they love,” she said. “We are happy to provide you with educational information or make vaccination referrals. Just call us at 252-358-7856.”
